Year's vIITSEC - A Retrospective Look of the Past 15 Years
As you know by now, I/ITSEC 2020 is canceled due to COVID (please find also I/ITSEC 2020 Goes Virtual in the 15th Year of Serious Games Showcase & Challenge), so we will not be holding our annual Serious Games Showcase and Challenge (SGS&C) this year. However, we are excited to have a virtual booth as part of vIITSEC and are offering a 15th anniversary retrospective of the SGS&C. Central to this event is our celebration of our past finalists.
The SGS&C would not be the amazing event it is today without our talented and
dedicated developers who bring us excellent games to showcase, and this year we
will highlight them! We’ll find out how the SGS&C
impacted our finalists and if there is anything happening currently with their
games.
The virtual booth will focus on a retrospective of the past 15 years of the SGS&C and
will be accessible to vIITSEC attendees. If you’re unable to attend vIITSEC,
visit our website sgschallenge.com to
see some of this exciting content. We’ll be highlighting how games have served
the education and training, government/defense, and medical markets. "See" you at vIITSEC!
Celebrating 15 years of Serious
Games
The Serious Games Showcase and Challenge (SGS&C) invites you to
join us in celebrating our 15th anniversary. In lieu of holding our annual
challenge, our vIITSEC booth will take you on a journey through the evolution
of Serious Games as experienced through the lens of past SGS&C
participants.
We’ll tell the stories of how the event has achieved these goals and
take a look back into our archives of prior finalists, winners, event
leadership, and sponsorships to share key trends that have shaped our serious
game history.
Choose your own path at the virtual booth, which features on-demand
content and stories told from a variety of game developers, early adopter, and
influencer perspectives. Learn about the evolution of Serious Game design and
key industry-shaping technology — elements that contributed to the current
industry position, and those that influence future forecasts of serious game
design and employment.
About The SGS&C Challenge
The Serious Games Showcase and Challenge is a competition and a
showcase event that was created to encourage video game developers to create
products that are useful for non-entertainment purposes. The annual event made
its first appearance as an exhibit space at the Interservice/Industry Training,
Simulation, and Education Conference (I/ITSEC) in 2006. The event welcomes
games from universities, businesses, and government organizations as entries in
the competition.
SGS&C contestants are invited to submit their serious game when the
submission period opens. This and other important dates are prominently
displayed on the SGS&C home page. Contestants must follow the process
outlined below and comply with the Rules.
Winners from SimTecT Serious Games Showcase are given automatic entry as
a finalist under the international collaboration initiative.
After the submission period closes, the SGS&C Planning Committee
conducts a Downselect process where the finalists are selected and notified
that they should start making their plans to attend I/ITSEC. The Challenge then
enters the evaluation period where an esteemed panel of evaluators determines
the winners of the awards in each category.
Middle and high school students from various school systems will play
and evaluate select games to collectively select the winner of the Students’
Choice Award.
The Interservice/Industry
Training, Simulation and Education Conference (I/ITSEC) is scheduled
to resume November 29 through December 3, 2021, in
Orlando, Florida, at the Orange County Convention Center.
